Electrical current is 230V, 50Hz & round three pin plugs are standard. International plugs are provided for guests.

Currency - (ZAR) –

South African rand. Is divided into 100 cents. Money can be exchanged at the banks, Bureaux de change flight ticket and passports are needed for exchange.

Getting Cash -

ATM's are widely available, A daily limit for cash withdrawals, major international credit cards are widely accepted.

Johannesburg enjoys a very favourable climate, which is dry and sunny most of the year round. Between October and April the city experiences heavy afternoon thunderstorms, with downpours that disappear as quickly as they arrive. Winter days are only slightly cooler than the pleasant summer average temperatures but it can become frosty on winter nights and early morning - no central heating bring warm clothes.

Public Transport -

Is not as well-developed as in European or Western Countries, most travellers who arrive by air will require an airport shuttle; hire car or Uber to their ongoing destinations. Uber is the most cost effective and efficient service, you will need a smart phone to download the Uber App which puts you in touch via gps with the nearest available driver ,enables you to check your route and receive reliable arrival times, Uber takes payment by credit card or, cash.

The Gautrain -

The first public city to city rail link system safe and efficient, bring together Pretoria and Johannesburg and other areas on the first phase – the second phase is being planned to make it even more accessible to different areas. The train runs from the O.R.Tambo international Airport to Midrand and other areas of interest. Please note the times and go on the link - Join.gautrain.co.za

Driving -

Would need an international license. We drive on the left of the road. Our roads are well marked and sign posted in English. Fuelling is easy and there are many Fuelling stations and they are really helpful with good service. Please note that only visa cards and local cards are accepted at fuelling stations, no other foreign cards. ZAR Cash is also accepted. However for local trips and long stays, self-drive is a good option particularly if you have GPS or access to Google Maps on your phone.

O.R.Tambo International -

Please note that you need to be at the airport 2hours before. Should you wish to be collected from the airport, your guest house will always be able to assist at a lower cost. There are many Car Rentals with International brands operating from the airport and the Gautrain station.

Walking Tours -

Walking tours have become a very popular way of experiencing the inner city. There is many excellent walking tours on offer. There are several ways of seeing Johannesburg in your pocket is an excellent guide to Johannesburg. It is comprehensive and gives up to date information on Johannesburg and gives knowledgeable take on the city.
